On Albatrosses

Donald Trump is acquitted and in this context I heard that Joe Biden has an albatross around is neck. I had to look that up. I wonder why Biden’s Ukraine affair should be a dead burden because he is really deeply involved in the corruption there. But I learned that killing an albatross brings bad luck.

I also saw a documentary about two South African islands, where mice and albatrosses live. The mice have no natural enemies there and become up to 30 cm big, what is even larger than a rat. These mice eat from young albatrosses, that can’t fly yet. Eat from really means that the mice bite into the living birds and wound them this way. Even a big mouse isn’t able to kill an albatross, but has also no need to do so. The albatrosses aren’t able to defend themselves against the mice. So the albatrosses get wounded. Before any wound can heal, the albatrosses get more wounds because this happens every night. The wounds accumulate and the albatrosses finally die. Nature can be cruel. But the albatrosses killed this way bring indeed bad luck to the mice. There are humans, who want to protect the albatrosses, so poison the mice.

Because of reasons, which can’t be generalized, do many humans think that certain animal species are somehow worth more than other species. I don’t understand this. I understand that many humans want nature to be less cruel, especially when these humans experienced cruelties, which were caused by humans. They will neither make nature less cruel nor heal their own wounds this way. They could instead have invented a new form of domestication. When wild animals need and get the protection of humans, then these wild animals will learn to seek the proximity of humans. Maybe this is even an old form of domestication with only the exception that the species, that get domesticated currently, aren’t useful like dogs or cats and the relation with humans becomes thus a one-way relation. In any case can be observed that animals, that should be wild, become more and more dependent on humans. The humans, who want to conserve wild species, will get rid of wild species this way.
