Bivoj

Bivoj is asteroid #5797 and also known as 1980 AA. Bivoj measures four-hundred meters in diameter. Bivoj belongs to the Near-Earth Asteroids of the Amor group and is a Mars-orbit-crosser. Bivoj’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 1.89 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.44, a period of revolution of 952 days, and an inclination of 4.2 degrees. Bivoj was discovered by the Czech astronomer Antonín Mrkos at the Kleť Observatory (Hvězdárna Kleť).

Bivoj is named after the hero Bivoj from Bohemian mythology. He clearly got formed after a historical role model, who was Jetřich of Buzice, who passed away in 1110 A.D. This Jetřich of Buzice caught a wild boar by its ears and put it on his back. The Buzice family after this deed received a wild boar’s head into its family crest. The Czech Chronicle by Václav Hájek of Libočany moved this deed back by some centuries, so that it would have been during the reign of Libuše. An otherwise unknown hero, whose name was Bivoj, then was the one, who caught a wild boar by its ears, put it on his back, and carried it to Vyšehrad. Bivoj as a reward for this deed got married to Libuše’s eldest sister Kazi. They got a son, who they named Rodislav. His coat of arms did show a wild boar’s head. The name Bivoj is probably derived from the Czech word bíti, which means to beat.

Already approaching a wild boar frontally is a really stupid idea! So the asteroid Bivoj presides over really stupid deeds. Albeit Bivoj could also indicate dealing with a wild animal successfully.
