Salome is an asteroid from Heretical Oracles’ list. Salome is asteroid #562, also known as 1905 QH, discovered by Max Wolf, and a member of the Hirayama-family Eos in the Outer Asteroid Main Belt.
Salome is named after a character from the Bible, who isn’t named there, but only believed to be identical with Salome, the granddaughter of Herod the Great. Salome was married twice and both times to relatives of herself. Her second marriage made her later the queen of Lesser Armenia. Coins still exist, which show her and her husband. The Roman historian Flavius Josephus, whose mother tongue was Aramaic, described Salome as the most beautiful woman in the world. In the Bible, where she isn’t explicitly named, is she the one, who asks (because her mother wants it) Herod the Great to behead John the Baptist.
Salome represents such a beautiful woman that even grown men can’t resist to fulfill her most absurd wishes. Sadly, it is realistic that some men react to some women in exactly this way. Hence Salome as an astrological force describes this situation from the passive, female side.
