Eva is asteroid #164 and of the type C. Eva’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.63 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.35, a period of revolution of 1 560 days, and an inclination of 24.5 degrees. Eva was discovered by Paul Pierre Henry at the Paris Observatory.
The name Eva for this asteroid was chosen for an unknown reason. The asteroids, that got discovered by any of the Henry brothers usually have names of persons, who were known to the Henry brothers. So they most likely knew an Eva, but who she was can’t be figured out anymore. The asteroid #164 probably snatched her name this way because many people of the time of the discovery would have shied back from giving a Biblical name to an asteroid and thus declare the Bible a mythology on the same level as Roman or Greek mythology. The woman from the Bible is called Ève in French, but Hawwa in Arabian and Ḥawwāh in Hebrew, so the variant Eva is closer to the original name. The astrological force of Eva could be related with the astrological force of Embla, but with a different emphasis. Eva represents a woman, who is seducible, and thus also complements the asteroid Salome, that represents an attractive and seducing woman.
