Winters

Winters is asteroid #15111, also known as 2000 CY92, and located in the Inner Asteroid Main Belt. Winters is named after a mentor of the 2001 Discovery Young Scientist Challenge (DYSC), a middle school science competition. Winters is a teacher at a Montessori School in Venice, Florida, USA.

The surname Winters originated from a patronym, which means that Winters is a descendant of a male person, who is named Winter. While Winters was formed in Germany as well as in England, Winter is only of English origin. The name was given to a son, who was born in winter. A sad or melancholic nature is sometimes associated with this name.

Searching for information on the person after whom this asteroid is named leads to nowhere. Other persons with the name Winters also aren’t adding anything to the meaning of this asteroid, that caught my attention only because my natal Winters is conjunct my natal midheaven. So a possible meaning can only be derived from the name Winters itself until experience will confirm or modify or reject this meaning. As explained above Winters means to originate from Winter. So Winters is rather meant as a genitive (des Winters in German) than a plural. Although this could still be part of the meaning because a namesake in plural form is unlikely to be found. After thinking about it this way, Winters reminds me at winter sports and winter tourism. In short everything, which happens every year during the winter. I somehow love this season because the heat waves, which I experience during each summer, are a torture to me. Maybe this is why my natal Winters is conjunct my natal midheaven.
