Iduna is asteroid #176 and of the type G. Iduna was discovered by Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters at Clinton, New York, USA. Iduna is an asteroid in the Outer Asteroid Belt with a orbital period of 2 079.1 days. The orbit further exhibits an eccentricity of 0.16796 and an inclination against the ecliptic of 22.660 degrees.
Brage is asteroid #4572 and also known as 1986 RF. Brage was discovered by the Danish astronomer Poul B. Jensen at Brorfelde. Brage revolves around the Sun in 1 527 days. Brage’s orbit exhibits an eccentricity of 0.16 and an inclination of 12.0 degrees.
Iduna is named after Sällskapet Idun, a club in Stockholm that hosted an astronomical conference. Thus the astrological force snatched the name of Idun, the Norse goddess of youth, counterpart to the Greek goddess Hebe. Brage is, with an unnecessary twist, named after Bragi, the Norse god of poetry. Bragi is a son of Odin. Iduna is an offspring of dwarfs and she is the wife of Bragi. Iduna grants the immortality of the Norse deities by giving out magic apples. Iduna doesn’t speak. Bragi speaks for her.
Immortality doesn’t exist on the physical plane. Souls are already immortal without needing any special items or medicines for this. So Iduna can’t be for real immortality, but only representing the wish for immortality and the wish for staying young eternally. These wishes are usually not spoken loud. Iduna could even represent unspoken wishes in general. Poets are often said to have a spiritual vein. They are able to catch and express by inspiration some pieces of information from the spiritual planes. These pieces are part of a truth, which is easier to understand in poems than in words of logic. Thus it is at least believed widely and Brage represents this truth, which you find in poetry. Iduna and Brage are a married couple, hence they are also interesting asteroids for synastries. They would show a certain nature of the relationship of a couple.
