Aichi is asteroid #5908 and also known as 1989 UF. Aichi was discovered by Mizuno Yoshikane (水野 義兼) and Furuta Toshimasa (古田 俊正) at Kani, Gifu, Japan. Aichi’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.25 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.18, a period of revolution of 1 235 days, and an inclination of 6.0 degrees.
Aichi is named after the Japanese prefecture Aichi or Aichi-ken (愛知県) in the Central Japan region. Aichi Prefecture borders Mie Prefecture to the west, Gifu Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture to the north, and Shizuoka Prefecture to the east. Nagoya is by population the fourth-largest city of Japan and the capital of Aichi-ken (愛知県), which further comprises seven districts and 54 municipalities. Toyota-city is one of the cities in Aichi-ken (愛知県). One of the districts in Aichi-ken (愛知県) is the district Aichi or Aichi-gun (愛知郡). Tōgō-chō (東郷町) or the town Tōgō is the only town in the rather rural Aichi-gun (愛知郡). When a Japanese says to come from Aichi, then most likely from a village in the district Aichi or even from a village anywhere in any of the districts of the prefecture Aichi. Nitō Moeno (仁藤 萌乃) is from Aichi.
The name Aichi (愛知) literally means love and wisdom. It could also mean love for wisdom or beloved wisdom. Such a name for a prefecture sounds artificial and this is because Aichi-ken (愛知県) was formed from the medieval provinces Owari-no-kuni (尾張国) and Mikawa-no-kuni (三河国). Aichi-gun (愛知郡) was a district of Owari-no-kuni (尾張国), but had different spellings and was most likely pronounced Ayuchi, meaning salmon market. The asteroid however is only named Aichi.
Being a place name asteroid, Aichi hints to a place in the central region of Japan. You can’t determine by place name asteroids, where a person is born. At least I can’t. I didn’t figure out any connection like this yet. So place name asteroids like Aichi hint rather to a place of interest. Aichi also can hint to a love for wisdom instead.
