United Nations

United Nations is asteroid #6000 and also known as 1987 UN. United Nations was discovered by the Danish astronomer Poul B. Jensen at the Brorfelde Observatory. United Nations’ orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.60 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.19, a period of revolution of 1 431 days, and an inclination of 14.4 degrees. United Nations is a member of the Hirayama-family Eunomia.

United Nations is named (since 1994) after the international organization, which is known as the United Nations. The sixth full thousand, which is the asteroid number here, seemed to mark a special asteroid and to wish for a special name. Most likely because the asteroid designation 1987 UN used already the letters UN, which are the initials and the common abbreviation for the United Nations, the IAU Commission decided that United Nations should also be the name of this asteroid. The astronomers certainly presume the United Nations on the good side because the asteroid is a member of the Hirayama-family Eunomia. United Nations as an astrological force actually can represent cooperation on the highest level only.
