Gaudium

Gaudium is asteroid #8061 and also known as 1975 US. Gaudium was discovered by the Swiss astronomer Paul Wild at the Zimmerwald Observatory. Gaudium is a member of the Hirayama-family Themis.

Gaudium is named after the Latin word gaudium, which means joy, pleasure, delight. The official naming citation states that Gaudium is designed to compensate the gloom of asteroid #5708, that is named Melancholia. So the naming had already considered the astrological interpretation. Hence Gaudium is an astrological force, that is opposing the astrological force Melancholia. Always having a look at both astrological forces instead of considering only one of them is recommendable.
