I previously had complained that some people teach inappropriate things and I had already to watch irresponsible ideas about self-defense broadcasted in tv. I didn’t list all the stupid ideas, which I already had to watch. I wouldn’t find an end if I began with this. I also don’t want to repeat stupid ideas.
But recently I watched a much better tv documentary. Many people in Germany and especially in Berlin complain that knife attacks have increased in recent years. There are also people, who want to make immigrants responsible for this. The new tv documentary took the worries serious and examined them thoroughly.
A journalist asked some policemen and also some self-defense experts, who weren’t simply people with black belts in this or that, but bouncers with many years of experience. The journalist went with such an expert to a shop, where you could buy fancy knives. The journalist wanted to make false accusations like usual in the bad journalism nowadays, but the expert talked him out of this. Knives for cutting bread are at least as effective as fancy knives. So do you want to prohibit kitchen knives?
Then the journalist wanted the experts to demonstrate how to defend versus a knife attack. One guy prepared a knife with a cushion and a red pen. While the guy, who was walking to the shop together with the journalist, was still talking, he produced a knife out of nowhere and put a sticker on the back of the journalist. The expert did show this way how unexpectedly knife attacks happen. He also said that you must distinguish two kinds of attackers with knives. One kind stands in front of you and shows a knife or a broken bottle. This kind of attacker wants to make a show. This kind of attacker actually doesn’t want to kill you or to injure you, but only to be acknowledged. The other kind of attacker stabs you suddenly from behind. Then the expert with the prepared knife demonstrated an attack on the other expert, who tried to avoid the attack. The red marks showed that he got hit roughly twenty times. The journalist also brought a medical doctor to the training hall, where they tried this. The medical doctor had a look at the red marks and said that each of these wounds would have been deadly if it were real wounds. Then the expert with the prepared knife handed the prepared knife over to a woman with absolutely no experience in fighting. The bouncer should show whether he could at least defend himself if such a person tries to stab him. He got less many red marks than in the experiment beforehand. But the medical doctor said that the red marks would represent several deadly wounds again. The journalist asked what somebody giving first aid should do with somebody, who got stabbed. The medical doctor replied that you can’t do anything if you aren’t a medical doctor with appropriate equipment. So always remember this: If you fight versus a knife, then you will be cut! You will most likely also end your incarnation.
The journalist asked the bouncer what to do then if you can’t defend yourself versus a knife. The bouncer replied that you better run away. If the environment allows it, then run away! Yes, he had also emphasized that even running away is only possible if the environment allows it! So I must add that you better anticipate beforehand what is going to happen. This is the only chance to survive such a situation!
The journalist asked policemen whether the number of knife attacks did really increase. A policeman confirmed this. But he denied that immigrants would more often use knifes than the domestic people do this. Knife attacks instead are usually the result of the influence of alcohol. Knives are usually carried because of the fear because of the reports about increased numbers of knife attacks. This shouldn’t be combined with alcohol, but is more frequently combined with alcohol. Hence the number of incidents involving knives rise.
I wished more documentaries of this quality would be shown in tv! This is what I see as a minimum standard for what should be shown in tv. But I’m afraid this documentary was an exception.
