Karin

Karin is asteroid #832 and also known as 1916 AB. Karin is a stony asteroid and was discovered by the German astronomer Max Wolf at Heidelberg in 1916. Karin’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.86 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.08, a period of revolution of 1 770 days, and an inclination of one degree with respect to the ecliptic. Karin measures approximately nineteen kilometers in diameter. Karin is the head and namesake of an asteroid-cluster. Hence her orbital parameters are important. The asteroid-cluster is also called the Karin-family, but it is merely a cluster formed by a collision 5.8 million years ago within the asteroid-family Lacrimosa/ Koronis. Hence the asteroid-cluster Karin can also be called an asteroid-subfamily. Its age of 5.8 million years is deemed young for an asteroid-cluster. The Karin asteroid-cluster has ninety members at least. Karin is the largest as well as the brightest member of her asteroid-cluster.

Karin is named after Karin Månsdotter. She lived on the material plane from 1550 A.D. until 1612 A.D. Karin Månsdotter was first the mistress and then the wife of Erik XIV. of Sweden and Estonia. Erik XIV. lived on the material plane from 1533 A.D. until 1577 A.D. He married Karin in 1567 A.D. This happened secretly, became known half a year later and so the couple married again another half a year later and officially. Karin Månsdotter’s parents were Ingrid Jakobsdotter and Måns Månsson. They aren’t well-known because they were commoners. Karin Månsdotter became an orphan latest in 1565 and was since that year serving Princess Elizabeth of Sweden as a Lady’s maid. Her love affair with King Erik XIV. began as soon as she lived at the royal court. A day after their official marriage, Karin Månsdotter became the queen of Sweden. But the noble people rebelled and his brother forced Erik XIV. to abdicate the throne most likely because of the low social class of the new queen. For the same reason she has always stayed popular among the Swedish commoners. Erik XIV. and Karin had a daughter, Sigrid with name, and three sons, whose names were Gustav, Henrik, and Arnold. Karin lived a secluded, but very wealthy life after her husband had passed away. Karin is the only Swedish queen, who is buried in Finland. The tragic love between Karin and Erik XIV. inspired painters, authors, and movie directors.

Karin Månsdotter’s popularity certainly is the reason why asteroid #832 got named this way. But the astrological force agreed obviously. Karin Månsdotter lived every girl’s dream: She became wealthy, popular, successful, founded a family and these all only because of love. Karin represents this dream. Karin also represents persons named Karin.
