Alicanto is asteroid #474640 and also known as 2004 VN112. Alicanto was discovered by the American astronomer Andrew C. Becker at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO). Although Alicanto was discovered already in 2004, he (the Spanish name indicates a male gender) got named in May 2021. Alicanto’s orbit features a semi-major axis of roughly three-hundred-and-twenty Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.85, and an inclination with respect to the ecliptic of 25.6 degrees. Alicanto is a Kuiper-Belt Object and Transneptunian Astrology wants Alicanto to be a Twotino, but only by comparing perihelia. I have to remind that an orbit is only confirmed after one complete revolution period got observed! Alicanto’s period of revolution is estimated at 5 700 years. Alicanto officially is a detached extreme transneptunian object from the outer rim of the Kuiper-Belt or even the inner rim (Hill-Cloud) of the Oort-Cloud. The orbital parameters of Alicanto as known so far are between those of Eris on the one hand and the sednoids Leleākūhonua and Sedna on the other hand. So Alicanto could be counted as a Scattered Disc Object or as a sednoid too. Only Alicanto’s spectral type doesn’t support the latter idea.
Alicanto is named after a nocturnal bird or bird demon from Chilean mythology. It feeds on gold, silver, and copper. Its wings change their colour according to what the Alicanto eats. He prefers gold in order to make his wings shine. His eyes also emit a strange light. The Alicanto, in spite of being usually portrayed staying in the air, can’t fly because of what he eats. The weight of his food, depending on his last meal, even slows him down while running. Miners can find rich treasures when following an Alicanto. But the Alicanto doesn’t like to be followed, so he will hide and is said to be able to switch of his shine too. The Alicanto also guides humans down some cliffs, so that the humans die, especially humans with an evil heart. Juan Godoy lived from 1800 until 1842 and was a Chilean prospector and woodcutter. He discovered an outcrop of silver near Chañarcillo in 1832 and thus set off the Chilean silver rush of the 1830s and 1840s. Folklore wants that an Alicanto guided him to there.
Alicanto’s orbital inclination is similar to that of Gonggong, so some perspective distortion as shown by Gonggong also can’t be denied for Alicanto. He is a mountain spirit similar to Rübezahl and shares with him the attitude to reward good people and to punish bad people. So the task and astrological meaning of Alicanto must be somewhere between those of Gonggong and of Rübezahl. The Chilean silver rush, which got indirectly attributed to an Alicanto, could be a really good hint. Humans value silver so high that they want to have it. But silver miners usually have hard lives instead of any soon or huge success. So Alicanto represents empty shine. If something looks desirable, but this only is erroneous, then this is of Alicanto’s realm. Alicanto can also hint to the Chilean mountains and their hazards.
