Tauntonia is asteroid #581 and also known as 1905 SH. Tauntonia was discovered by Joel Hastings Metcalf, who lived from 1866 until 1925 and was an astronomer, an Unitarian minister, and a humanitarian. Tauntonia belongs to the Hirayama-family Alauda.
Tauntonia is a place name asteroid and named after the city Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA. Taunton is the County Seat of Bristol County. The city was founded in 1637 by Elizabeth Poole after English settlers bought the area Cohannet from the indigenous Wampanoag. Elizabeth Poole was the first female founder of a city in what later became the USA. Most of the settlers in her city came from Taunton, Somerset, England, so the city was renamed (from the indigenous name Cohannet) into Taunton in 1640. Several companies processed silver in Taunton, so the city got the nickname The Silver City. From 1914 on the city obtained the additional nickname The Christmas City because of its Christmas decoration.
Taunton, Somerset, England got its name from the river Tone. Taunton originally was Tone Town because it was a settlement located at the river Tone. There are several towns and cities known as Christmas Town, Christmas City, Silver Town, or Silver City. There are also several towns named after a river. The first female founder of a city could be relevant if she gets represented by an asteroid too. But this isn’t the case yet. So besides hinting to towns and cities named Taunton, the astrological force Taunton only can indicate homesickness or feeling homesick because renaming the town after another town, where the inhabitants came from, is the striking feature of the city Taunton.
