Datemasamune is asteroid #6859 and also known as 1991 CZ. Datemasamune was discovered by Koishikawa Masahiro (小石川 正弘) at the Ayashi Station of the Sendai Observatory. Datemasamune’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 1.83 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.01, a period of revolution of 906 days, and an inclination of 23.2 degrees. Datemasamune is a member of the Hungaria group.
Datemasamune is named after the Japanese warlord and feudal lord Date Masamune (伊達 政宗). He lived from 1567 until 1636. He became the third-richest and and one of the most influential feudal lords in Japanese history because of his fiefdom in Sendai, where he had a castle built in 1601. Several circumstances made Date Masamune (伊達 政宗) more famous than other feudal lords of Japanese history. His biography is too rich and colorful for giving or summarizing his biography here. I’m not sure what I should see as most important. That he contracted smallpox as a child and had as a consequence lost his right eye? That he didn’t die on the battlefield? That he served several consecutive lords because he lived long enough to do so? That the later lords did see him as a good example of a loyal vassal because they didn’t know about his previous loyalty conflicts? That he was in severe loyalty conflicts because he owed his loyalty not only to his lord, but also to several other clans, that were traditional allies of the Date (伊達)? That he tried to increase international relationships and trade with foreign countries? That his own mother tried to kill him because she wanted his younger brother to lead the clan? This episode in the life of Date Masamune (伊達 政宗) is currently believed to be an invention of a later generation.
Is Datemasamune representing feudal lords because Date Masamune (伊達 政宗) is somehow seen as an ideal of a feudal lord? I find his loyalty conflicts because of having too many allies most interesting. This topic makes me ponder the question how many allies you can have before you have too many allies. I rather have too few allies. The many famous people, with whom Date Masamune (伊達 政宗) interacted, make connections between Datemasamune and other astrological forces very likely. The connection with Sendai is obvious. So the task and purpose of the astrological force Datemasamune will mainly be to connect the astrological forces named after places and people from the lifetime of Date Masamune (伊達 政宗) with each other. Datemasamune is so-to-say denoting the theme of such astrological forces.
