“Brawls don’t count!” is something, which a German emigrant to Paraguay wrote in an online discussion forum. He told people, who are interested in emigrating to Paraguay, that they should always be prepared for a fight there. Even when he is bathing or sleeping, his gun is never out of his reach. He has meanwhile retired from his ranch and lives in a town. He had mainly to fight cattle rustlers on his ranch. The term cattle rustlers makes my midriff tingle. But cattle rustlers seem to be a real problem in Paraguay. Now while the emigrant lives in the town, he is even more on guard and expecting gunfights at any time. I guess that I could have lived this way in my youth, but it would be too exhausting meanwhile. The South-American climate would already exhaust me. This would hardly have been better in my youth. Not the best precondition for frequent fights. So some things could be better in Paraguay, but wannabe emigrants shall be warned that Paraguay has its own and characteristic problems.
