Mikula

Mikula is asteroid #2969 and also known as 1978 RU1. Mikula is a member of the asteroid-family Koronis. Mikula’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.85 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.03, a period of revolution of 1 565 days, and an inclination of 1.9 degrees. Mikula was discovered by the Russian-born Soviet astronomer Nikolai Stepanovich Chernykh (Никола́й Степа́нович Черны́х) at the Nauchnij Research Campus Station of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory.

Mikula is named after Mikula Selyaninovich (Микула Селянинович). The second part of his name is a patronym and means “the villager’s son”. Mikula Selyaninovich (Микула Селянинович) is an epic hero of the Novgorodian Rus’ or Novgorod Republic, a medieval state existing from the 12th to the 15th centuries, stretching from the gulf of Finland in the west to the northern Ural Mountains in the east. The Novgorodian Rus’ was established by breaking away from the Kievan Rus’, but not by requesting independence. The Novgorodians had at some point in history lost the overview of who could be the legitimate prince of the Kievan Rus’. This must be blamed on the royals of the Kievan Rus’. Novgorod was the easternmost trading post of the Hanseatic League.

Mikula Selyaninovich (Микула Селянинович) is a plowman, who is faster and stronger than all warriors, who travel through his village. I couldn’t figure out more than this. So Mikula will mainly represent physical strength.
