Ovidius

Ovidius is asteroid #2800 and also known as 4585 P-L. Ovidius is a common member of the Hirayama-family Themis. Ovidius was discovered during the course of the Palomar-Leiden Survey at the Palomar Observatory.

Ovidius is named after the Roman poet Pūblius Ovidius Nāsō, who lived on the material plane from 43 B.C. until 17 A.D. under the reign of Augustus and is known as Ovid. He was of noble birth and was educated accordingly. The only source for his biography is his own work, but historians doubt the reliability of his autobiography. Ovid was the most read poet in Ancient Rome. His popularity since then had ups and downs, but never ceased. Ovid retold many tales from Greek mythology and altered them tremendously.

Ovidius is a kind of superior of all asteroids, that are named after characters from tales told by Pūblius Ovidius Nāsō, for example the asteroid and ex-planet Astraea. Ovid had the habit to turn all male characters in his versions of the tales into rapists. So Ovid mainly represents false accusations.
