Aegle is asteroid #96 and of the type T. Aegle’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 3.06 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.13, a period of revolution of 1 954 days, and an inclination of 15.9 degrees. Aegle is the parent body and head of a Hirayama-family. So the parameters are important albeit members of the Aegle asteroid-family can also be of the types X or C. Type T is a rare and anhydrous type. Aegle was discovered by the French astronomer Jérôme-Eugène Coggia at the Marseilles Observatory (Observatoire de Marseille).
Aegle is, according to Paul Herget’s The Names of the Minor Planets (1955), named after one of the Hesperides, who are in this version, passed on by Apollonius of Rhodes, three daughters of Hésperos (Ἕσπερος), brother of Átlas (Ἄτλας). Their names are Aíglê (Αἴγλη), who is the one lending her name to asteroid #96, Erytheis (Ερυθεις), and Hespere. But Paul Herget’s The Names of the Minor Planets contains huge mistakes. For example Sylvie Petiaux-Hugo Flammarion, the first wife of the French astronomer Camille Flammarion, is listed there as the namesake or eponymous person of the asteroid Sylvia (or asteroid #87), although the discoverer already in 1866 did put clear that Sylvia is named after Rhea Silvia from Roman mythology. So Aegle could also be named after one of several other Aíglê (Αἴγλη) from Greek mythology. Most famous of them is the most beautiful of the Naiads and mother of the Chárites (Χάριτες). She probably was the first figure with the name Aíglê (Αἴγλη), that is translated as brightness or dazzling light. The father of the Chárites (Χάριτες) is Helios, who is the Sun. This explains the name “dazzling light”. If really the daughter of the evening star is meant, then nothing else than her name is known on her.
A dazzling light following the evening star? I’ve got no idea what this would be. But Aegle in every case represents a dazzling light. So Aegle belongs to the theme of light like Sunshine or Lampetia. Aegle is similar to Souten, but not revealing anything at night. Aegle simply represents too much of something (like for example too much propaganda or too many fake news, all claiming to debunk a myth, but contradicting each other), so that she represents an area, where you can’t see clearly.
