Ate is asteroid #111 and of the type C. Ate’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.59 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.10, a period of revolution of 1 526 days, and an inclination of 4.9 degrees. Ate was discovered by the German-American teacher and astronomer Christian Heinrich Friedrich Peters.

Ate is named after the Greek goddess Átē (Ἄτη). She is a sister of Dysnomía (Δυσνομία) and both are daughters of Eris and granddaughters of Nyx, when following Hesiod. The other possibility is to follow Homér, then Átē (Ἄτη) is a daughter of Zeus. Dysnomia is the name of the natural satellite of the dwarf-planet and plutoid Eris. Dysnomia and Ate both are antagonists of Eunomia. Zeus did kick Átē (Ἄτη) out off the Olympus because of her misconduct. Átē (Ἄτη) is the goddess of mischief, delusion, ruin, and blind folly, rash action and reckless impulse, who led men down the path of ruin. She also led both gods and men to rash and inconsiderate actions and to suffering.
