Arduina is asteroid #394 and also known as 1894 BH and as A894 WB. Arduina’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.76 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.23, a period of revolution of 1 675 days, and an inclination of 6.2 degrees. Arduina was discovered by the French astronomer Alphonse Louis Nicolas Borrelly at the Marseilles Observatory (Observatoire de Marseille).
Arduina is named after the Celtic goddess Arduinna. Arduina, Arduinne, Ardvinna, and Ardbinna are variants of her name. The Romans equaled her with Diana, although Arduinna probably is the goddess of nature or the forest. Only hunting could be a connection between Arduinna and Diana. While the Romans inscribed the names of goddesses equaled with Diana in a stone, statuettes and other depictions of Arduinna all are doubtful with respect to whether these really show Arduinna. The Ardennes region and the Ardennes Forest, which is located in Belgium and Luxembourg and extends into France and Germany, are named after Arduinna or vice-versa because Ardennes also is said to mean “forest of fair heights”. So Arduina is a place name asteroid, that hints to regions of dense forest, especially to the Ardennes region.
