Tensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru: Jakushou Ryouchi wo Uketsuida node, Yuushuu na Jinzai wo Fuyashiteitara, Saikyou Ryouchi ni Natteta (転生貴族、鑑定スキルで成り上がる～弱小領地を受け継いだので、優秀な人材を増やしていたら、最強領地になってた～) is the original title of the anime series, which is better known as As a Reincarnated Aristocrat, I’ll Use My Appraisal Skill to Rise in the World. I wonder why anime of the 2020s must have such lengthy and stupid titles. However, the title of this anime series at least is very descriptive. The protagonist, Ars Lovent, isn’t much overpowered, but has his skill of precisely appraising people at the first glance and his rank as a nobleman to work with. So far, this anime series, the title of which commonly gets abbreviated to kanteiskill, is far more promising than other contemporary anime.

Well, I really found the first season great. But in the first season happens not much more than that the characters get introduced. They in the second season go at war. This already is disappointing. Second seasons are the worst of many series. Kanteiskill has two seasons so far and hence is overall disappointing. The world of kanteiskill is a medieval world. Magicians exist, but they merely replace cannons. These magicians even need a special magical water as their ammunition and cast long range fire spells for attacking enemy castles. If artillerymen with cannons would have been shown instead of these magicians, then the only difference would have been more plausibility.

Not only the plot merely consisting of going at war is disappointing, but also that the authors, in spite of this decision, don’t know anything about medieval warfare! Well, I’m glad that Ars Lovent is a big fan of fair-play and doesn’t let things get bloody. I certainly would dislike the anime much more if this would be different. But Ars Lovent should have, after demonstrating his skill, prevented the war at all. If he had to go at war, then the authors should at least have learnt something about medieval warfare! Ars Lovent employs a group of ninja mercenaries and hurries from siege to siege. The besieged castles give up after some bombardment and the war is won. Well, sieges had in the Middle Ages happened rather frequent and there also had been some famous historical sieges. But the anime series shows castles of the European type and these never were given up because of some bombardment or because of some sabotage by some slipped-in ninja. The loss of a castle also didn’t result in losing a war, but usually in the construction of a newer and better castle. The only realistic reason for Ars Lovent winning the war was that his enemies treated their inferiors low, so that these weren’t loyal and Ars Lovent was able to win them over. But I think that he for exactly this reason could have prevented the war at all. If his enemies had been honorable people with loyal inferiors, then the war could have gone on forever or Ars Lovent would have got defeated.

Tensai Ōji no Akaji Kokka Saisei Jutsu ~Sō da, Baikoku Shiyō~ (天才王子の赤字国家再生術〜そうだ、売国しよう〜) or The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt (also an anime series of the 2020s as already revealed by the lengthy title) in my opinion is a much better story. Its protagonist, Wein Salema Arbalest, with the help of his childhood friend and later wife Ninym Ralei, his former schoolmate, friend, and second imperial princess of the Earthworld Empire Lowellmina Earthworld, and his little sister Falanya Elk Arbalest prevents wars or wins them to his own surprise. Wein Salema Arbalest isn’t overpowered, doesn’t have any magical ability at all and also no memory of a previous life. He simply is smart and perceived as a great leader, so that people follow him willingly. Although having a little sister is in several anime as well as in this one a kind of cheat skill.

Perhaps kanteiskill would be better if Ars Lovent, too, would have a crazy little sister. On the other hand, I understand that the protagonist shall be able to do something without this cheat. Especially because many people can’t relate with protagonists, who have a crazy little sister. I also can’t. But protagonists with a disabled brother could never be successful protagonists, so I anyway can’t relate with protagonists. However, I only wanted to complain about stories, which play in the Middle Ages, yet are due to lack of research unable to show how people worked and lived in the Middle Ages.
