Iolanda is asteroid #509 and also known as 1903 LR. Iolanda is a common stony asteroid. Iolanda’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 3.06 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.09, a period of revolution of 1 958 days, and an inclination of 15.4 degrees. Iolanda was discovered by the German (from Baden, a grand-dukedom with Karlsruhe as the capital, while Germany still didn’t exist) astronomer Maximilian Franz Joseph Cornelius Wolf, usually referred to as Max Wolf, at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl State Observatory (Landessternwarte Heidelberg-Königstuhl).
The eponymous namesake of the asteroid Iolanda is unknown. There even aren’t known candidates. The name Iolanda however is a translatable name of Ancient Greek origin. Iolanda translated into English would be the Violet Bloom.
