Don’t Get Stabbed!

If you have to defend yourself against a knife attack, then you will get cut. Many websites teach this and I, too, am doing so. I once did read on a random website a complaint about every martial artist teaching that you’ll get cut if defending against a knife attack. But should these martial artists teach something else than the truth? I think that it is the best to be honest. But the author of that random website seemingly misunderstood the forecast of getting cut as the idea that you should accept to get cut. This is absolutely not what I meant!!! The opposite is true. I recommend to do everything possible for the sake of avoiding to get cut!

Everybody should avoid to get cut and there is a natural flinch reflex for avoiding such dangers. But the fact that forensic data backs this also means that the natural flinch reflex is insufficient for fending off an attacker wielding a knife. At least some rules have to be obeyed for avoiding to get stabbed. And learning how to use a knife also is very helpful. And all of this still is unlikely to protect you from getting cut. This warning is meant for making you better prepared! It isn’t meant for making you give up and accept to get injured! To get cut without being mentally prepared for it could distract you so much that you become prone for suffering more injuries. If you’re mentally prepared, then you have a better chance to still fend off the attacker. So the advice is only to be prepared and to not give up!
