Radegast is the name of asteroid #2581, which is also known as 1980 VX and is an asteroid of the Inner Main Belt. This is already everything, which is remarkable. Radegast is named after the Slavic god Svarožić.
The Slavic god Svarožić is known under different names in different areas. East Slavic and South Slavic is his name Dažbog or Dabog, the Czechs call him Radhošt. From the German border to the Czech Republic northward to the Baltic Sea is his name Redigast or Radegast. Svarožić means “the son of Svarog” and this means that Svarožić is the son of the god of the sky. Dažbog means “he gives light”. This hints to Dažbog being the god of fire, of light, and of the Sun. Svarožić was in Russian annals from around the year 1200 equaled with the Greek god Helios. But the names Redigast and Radegast seem to be derived from a temple within a moated castle with the name Rethra. As Radegast became this god of the Sun a local and tribal god and then a god of war.
The asteroid Radegast belongs somehow to the asteroids, which describe certain facets of the Sun. Although Radegast is a name of a god, that had before been the god of the Sun, but had already developed away from that and into a god of war. So the Sun’s facet, which is described here, is the fact that many deities have historically been derived from the Sun. This is in most cases forgotten. But previous researchers were able to prove it in many cases, so that contemporary researchers should at least be alerted if not immediately suspecting that certain deities are derivatives of the Sun if they show attributes of the Sun. Wouldn’t have many deities have been derived from the Sun, then it would be illogical that there are celestial bodies besides the Sun named after solar deities. That there are still asteroids, that could receive names of many more solar deities, complicates astrological considerations seriously. I’m afraid that even all until now only theoretical possibilities have to be considered too. Each facet requires to think about why it is (or isn’t yet) an extra in the Solar System instead of being left directly to the Sun only.
