Ask and Embla

Ask is asteroid #4894 and also known as 1986 RJ. Embla is asteroid #4895 and also known as 1986 TK4. These asteroids are similar to each other and both are ordinary asteroids of the Asteroid Main Belt. Both asteroids were discovered by the Danish astronomer Poul Jensen at the Brorfelde Observatory.

Ask and Embla are named after the first humans (Askr ok Embla) of Norse mythology. Ask(r) was according to Norse mythology the first male human. Embla was according to Norse mythology the first female human. Ask was formed from an ash tree, which had probably drifted through the sea and arrived at a beach. Hence the words Ask and ash are still similar. The case of the word Embla is more difficult. It is much disputed from what she was made. It is only clear that she was made from a piece of wood, too, and the gods made Ask and Embla together by adding more properties to the two pieces of wood. Embla and Ask then reproduced and mankind was thus formed.

Embla and Ask are a couple, that I overlooked when I wrote on couples, that are represented by asteroids, like Thisbe and Pyramus or Eurydike and Orpheus. So Embla and Ask are in a similar way relevant for synastry. The difference is only that Embla and Ask aren’t tragic, but have children together. The loyalty of Embla and Ask to each other is beyond any question because neither Embla nor Ask have any alternative. So Embla and Ask should hint to a close and happy relationship in synastry.
