TARDIS is asteroid #3325 and a member of the Alauda-asteroid-family in the Outer Asteroid Belt. TARDIS is also known as 1984 JZ. TARDIS was discovered at the Anderson Mesa Station, Arizona, USA by the American astronomer Brian A. Skiff, who has discovered sixty asteroids. It seems to be a secret what the A. in his name stands for. TARDIS seems to be so uninteresting to astronomers that the asteroids shape and rotation period are still unknown. But the orbit has an eccentricity of 0.0142 and an inclination of 22.221° with respect to the ecliptic.
TARDIS is indeed named after the time machine of the Doctor in the British tv series Doctor Who. Although this should actually have been prevented by the naming commission of the IAU. This seems like there are some biased people working there. The TARDIS can move freely through time and space and its name is an acronym.
TARDIS means Time And Relative Dimension In Space. But tardis is also the Latin word for late.
I once read that an astrologer found that transits of TARDIS are connected with being late. This could be a train arriving too late or somebody missing a meeting or whatever. Whenever somebody or something isn’t on time, then TARDIS can (not must because there can still be many similar astrological forces as well) be involved. So TARDIS shows the meaning of its name. If you think about it, then this is the only way how the astrological force can manifest because time machines don’t exist. At least not yet. You could wish to have one. But this wish would you have then, when you missed a certain point in time. So TARDIS can only show to be not on time.
