Bilkis

Bilkis is asteroid #585, also known as 1906 TA, is a carbonaceous asteroid in the Inner Asteroid Belt. Bilkis was discovered by August Kopff. Bilkis is named after the queen of Sheba, who is called Bilkis in Islam, but not in the Koran. Neither the Bible nor the Koran give her name.

Bilkis is different from the idea, which the Bible gives about the queen of Sheba. She is a very alluring woman in the Bible and is hence able to bring king Solomon away from his path and his religion temporarily. In the Koran plays Solomon some magical tricks, the queen of Sheba is very impressed and adopts his religion.

The name Bilkis is in Arabic Bilqīs (بِلْقِيْس). This shall be derived from Ancient Greek pallakis (παλλακίς) and mean concubine. I must say that this would be a very strange name for a queen! But I’m not able to provide any explanation for the name Bilkis, so I have to adopt this standard explanation.

Heretical Oracles deems this asteroid relevant. I wonder why because I don’t know any example of this planet being relevant. The meaning of the asteroid seems to be quite obvious. Bilkis will hint to a woman, who is played by a man, wax in the hand of a man, or (maybe as a consequence) serving as a concubine.
