Bro

Bro is asteroid #10128 and also known as 1993 FT31. Bro was discovered in the Uppsala – European Southern Observatory Survey of Asteroids and Comets (UESAC) at the La Silla Observatory in Chile. Bro is a Main Belt Asteroid with an orbital period of 1 249 days, eccentricity of 0.23, and inclination of 5.6°.

After asteroid #16155, named Buddy, couldn’t help me to find a buddy, I thought perhaps the asteroid Bro could solve the problem instead. But Bro isn’t named after this English word at all. Bro is instead a mythology asteroid! Well, rather named after a half-mythological place. Hence also a place name asteroid of a similar type as Brocken or Rhodope. Bro is named after a small parish on the island of Gotland, Sweden, where an old cairn from the Bronze Age is found, said to be the burial site of the Norse god Balder.

So the astrological force Bro will rather not indicate a bro. The astrological force hints instead to Sweden, in particular Gotland, and even more in particular to the parish Bro and it hints to Norse mythology. Bro emphasizes in particular that a Norse god can be mortal. This is very unique and very likely a sign of the decline of Norse mythology. Greek mythology lets several mortals become immortals, but an immortal becoming mortal is very unusual and even more unusual when it simply happens without further explanation. The tales of Norse mythology were written down while they were already no longer taken serious and the christian religion has already expanded to the Nordic lands. So Bro, as the burial site of a god, proves and insists in a transition. A transition, which led to a secularization. Doubtful whether Norse gods could have become Marvel superheroes if they would have stayed gods. Due to the large amount of asteroids will Bro probably not be too useful indicating other types of transition too.
