Zashikiwarashi is named after child-like yōkai (妖怪), which are spirit-like creatures or ghosts or apparitions of Japanese folklore. Zashikiwarashi (座敷童子) are mainly known from the prefecture Iwate (岩手) and neighbouring prefectures. Zashikiwarashi (座敷童子) appear seldom in the shape of boys, mostly in the shape of girls with bobbed hair and wearing a kimono (着物). Sometimes the zashikiwarashi (座敷童子) are heard using spinning wheels. Zashikiwarashi (座敷童子) appear only in old houses of traditional Japanese style. Zashikiwarashi (座敷童子) perform pranks, but protect also the house and its inhabitants. They even guarantee wealth to the inhabitants of the house. Hence zashikiwarashi (座敷童子) are very welcome yōkai (妖怪). But if they leave a house, then the decline of the inhabitants is sure. Hence it isn’t wise to upset a zashikiwarashi (座敷童子). Only the inhabitants of the house, where a zashikiwarashi (座敷童子) lives, are able to see this yōkai (妖怪), but visitors are able to hear it.

The astrological force Zashikiwarashi is named after a spook, which is bound to houses. Hence Zashikiwarashi should be examined in questions concerning real estate. The astrological force can be expected to show beneficent effects for monument conservation and for inhabitants. The asteroid House should also be considered. Because of the child-shape of the spook should Zashikiwarashi also be examined together with the asteroid Child.
