I already told my opinion on the suggestion that humans must save the Sun from using up its fuel and from exploding. (I forgot only to say that additional civilization levels should be added for handling galaxy-clusters and super-clusters.) On the one hand we have good luck because the event is so far in the future that we can develop socially and technically until then. On the other hand we have bad luck because we can postpone everything, ignore and forget it, and meanwhile spend our time with producing more massacres.

But we can have hope because we can expect more disasters on the way to the final disaster! Astronomers expect the Moon to get lost in about a million years already. The Moon slows down the rotation of the Earth, but the rotation momentum must be conserved, so the Moon’s orbit is taking additional momentum and this loosens the Moons connection with the Earth. One-million years is the minimum, some more million years can be needed until the Moon is lost. But it is as disastrous for the life on our planet as an expanding Sun because the Moon stabilizes the seasons and we aren’t adapted to an Earth without the Moon.

Before the Moon leaves us, the continents will reunite to a new supercontinent. This will cause all streams in the sea and in the atmosphere to collapse. Air and water won’t be refreshed and precipitation will cease to exist. This is expected to happen in maybe hundred-thousand years. Mankind survived already some changes in climate, but they were always connected with huge migrations and they were all tiny compared with what to expect when the continents unite.

For the man-made climate change will you wait forever. But minor climate changes will continue to happen. Additionally have humans caused problems by deforestation and fishing pressure as well as by depositing chemicals, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and heavy metals. While scientists speak about terraforming Mars, we are meanwhile martiforming Earth.

So we have enough challenges, which should be seen as reasons to develop socially and technically. These challenges mean that we can’t postpone anything for a billion years or more. Reforms of society and economy are urgent. I realize that I don’t write enough about economy, so that everybody, who stumbles upon my blog, will be able to understand what has to be done. I’m going to improve this.
