Prudentia is asteroid #474 and was discovered by Max Wolf at Heidelberg. Prudentia’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.45 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.212, a period of revolution of 1 404 days, and an inclination of 8.8 degrees. This makes Prudentia an ordinary Inner Belt Asteroid.
Prudentia is named after an allegoric Roman figure. This means she actually isn’t part of any mythology, but the Romans felt the need to represent prudence somehow. Prudentia simply is the Latin word for prudence. She used to be associated with Iustitia. Thus the Romans expressed that justice requires prudence. Prudentia as an astrological force self-evidently also has the task to represent prudence.
