Wisdom

Wisdom is asteroid #3402 and also known as 1981 PB. Wisdom was discovered by Edward L.G. “Ted” Bowell at the Anderson Mesa Station of the Lowell Observatory. Wisdom is a Mars-orbit-crosser.

Wisdom is named after Jack Wisdom, a dynamicist and professor of planetary sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Wisdom pioneered in the study of the dynamics and long-term stability of the Solar System and demonstrated the dynamical mechanism for the clearing of asteroids in the Kirkwood gaps of the asteroid belt. There is a website on Jack Wisdom’s career. Articles on him, including those in the Wikipedia, know nothing else on him than what he did research.

Depending on what Jack Wisdom did research, the asteroid Wisdom could symbolize bringing order into the chaos. This is a possible interpretation of the term wisdom when needing an interpretation of the term wisdom because prudence as well as knowledge and reasoning are represented in the sky too. So Wisdom indeed represents wisdom, but a wisdom, which must be different from prudence or reasoning. The idea of bringing order into a chaos serves as a guideline here in the separation of these similar terms. Especially finding the difference between wisdom and prudence still is difficult, but many websites explain this difference already. They all adopted the definition found by Aristoteles. Wisdom is something theoretical. It is a skill of the mind and can be developed by contemplation. Prudence on the other hand is shown by actions. Wisdom is precondition for acting prudently. But it doesn’t need to be your own wisdom, you can simply stick to acting morally instead. Prudent is also seen as synonymous with cautious. So Wisdom is similar with Prudentia and Sapientia, but still an astrological factor on its own.
