Frö

Frö is asteroid #6666 and also known as 1993 FG20. Frö was discovered during the course of the Uppsala–ESO Survey of Asteroids and Comets (UESAC), which took place from 1992 until 1993, at the La Silla Observatory in Chile. Frö’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.58 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.24, a period of revolution of 1 512 days, and an inclination of 3.0 degrees.

Frö is named after the god Freyr from Norse mythology. Freyr is the brother of Freyja, after whom the asteroids Vanadis and Freia are named. Besides Freia, Fröja is an alternative spelling of Freyja too. Frö is an alternative spelling of Freyr. I did mention him in my article on the asteroid Freia, but I almost overlooked Frö because this is an unusual spelling variant. Fröja and Frö both are children of Skadi and Njord. Freyr can be translated as the lord. He is the brother or a male version of Freyja, so Freyr is the Norse god of fertility.

Freyja probably did split off from Frigg, so that Frigg represents housewives and mothers within wedlock, while Freyja represents free love without wedlock. Frigg’s spouse is Odin. But not only wedlock needs to be done with a partner. Mating without wedlock still requires a mate. Freyja is representing the female mate, so her male version Frö is representing the male mate without wedlock.
