Chanco’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.97 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.12, a period of revolution of 1 870 days, and an inclination of 3.3 degrees. Chanco was discovered by the Belgian astronomer Thierry Pauwels at the Royal Observatory of Belgium.
Chanco is named after the toponym Chanco, that was used by the Flemish astronomer and priest Godefroy Wendelin, who lived from 1580 until 1667 and named the Belgian city of Genk as Chanco in the Leges Salicea Illustratae. It is the oldest written name known from the old Franco-German language and means stallion. So Chanco hints ot the Belgian city of Genk and represents stallions.
