Potato

Potato is asteroid #88705 and also known as 2001 SV. Potato measures 4.8 km in diameter. Potato’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 3.12 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.08, a period of revolution of 2’013 days, and an inclination of 10.0 degrees. Potato was discovered by the Hong-Kong-born Canadian amateur astronomer Yeung Kwong-Yu (楊 光宇)/ William Yeung at his own private Desert Eagle Observatory (IAU-Code: 333), which is situated near Benson, Arizona, USA.

Potato got discovered in 2001 and named in 2008 during the United Nations’ International Year of the Potato. So asteroid #88705 indeed got named after potatoes. Asteroid #88705 hence is a food-themed asteroid, that represents potatoes. It could be especially meaningful when in an aspect with the asteroid Brachyrhynchus.
