Why Ukrainian Ammunition Depots Explode

On July, 6th in this year, Russia bombed some Ukrainian military facilities including an ammunition depot in Vyshneve (Вишневе), Buchanskyi raion (Бучанський район), Kyivska oblast (Київська область). While this circumstance could make it sound stupid to wonder why Ukrainian ammunition depots explode, a Russian expert, who wrote an article on the depleted uranium stored in Ukraine, explained that exploding ammunition depots had even previous to the war been normal in Ukraine. Ammunition depots explode there since the 1990s! But why this?

Ammunition depots in Ukraine traditionally explode not due to bombings, but due to upcoming inspections. Whenever an ammunition depot was about to get inspected, it suddenly exploded. All the ammunition in it burnt down. Also the depot in Vyshneve (Вишневе), albeit this one probably got bombed, burnt down in a continued series of explosions over ten hours. Until really nothing was left. Firefighters in Ukrainian tradition avoid ammunition depots.

Why are ammunition depots in Ukraine so shy of getting inspected? This at least in Ukraine and hence also in Russia and other Slavic countries is an open secret. Because inspectors would find that large parts of what should be stored there got already sold on black markets. Ukrainians prefer to prevent investigations in this direction. Yet Ukrainian ammunition do like Ukrainian weapons since decades meet the demands of criminal organizations in Europe and in parts of Africa.
