Eris

Eris is a Kuiper Belt Object and a dwarf-planet and hence a plutoid. Actually all Kuiper Belt Objects should be called plutoids in order to make a distinction from objects of the Asteroid Belt, but in accordance with current definitions plutoid is a superfluous category and Eris also an asteroid. Although Eris has a known satellite with name Dysnomia. Eris is further a Scattered Disc Object. This category is often represented as made for objects further out than the Kuiper Belt, but actually Scattered Disc Object refers to the currently discussed way of creation of such objects. They are mainly Kuiper Belt Objects, but with large eccentricity and large inclinations. Eris’s inclination is indeed so large that she can sometimes be on a circumpolar path and so it’s really doubtful that it has anything to say that she is currently at an ecliptic length of twenty-three and quarter degrees of Aries, thus approaching the twenty-three degree mark in her current retrograde motion. Pluto-Charon’s inclination of 17.133° makes already doubtful whether Pluto-Charon should be shown in horoscopes, where current astrology programs show Pluto-Charon. Eris has an inclination of 44° and will hence most times not be found where you would suspect it because of the current manner to show Eris in a horoscope, if she’s shown at all. From this can astrology be criticized reasonably and differently from simply the perspective of not even knowing the difference between a horoscope and a star sign. I can even be grateful that the English language comprises the advantage that the word asterism isn’t similar to star sign.

Edit: Lunarplanner doesn’t exist anymore, so the picture of the orbit is now replaced with the Wikimedia picture of Eris’ orbit.

It is very necessary to understand an orbit before you consider using the asteroid in a horoscope! But this doesn’t mean that Eris shouldn’t be used in horoscopes. Eris is named after the goddess of strife in Greek mythology. What is more abundant than strife in our current society? So Eris is very needed for describing the progresses and regresses of society. Eris in Aries seems to be a strong position for her. Eris is the sister of Ares and part of his entourage. Deities of Greek mythology have huge entourages sometimes and this is different from other mythologies. The discovery of Eris in the Kuiper Belt made the “demotion” of Pluto necessary and also this caused much strife. Eris deserved her name. Her Roman version Discordia is obviously only the opposite of Concordia, hence both are nothing more than words or concepts, different from the Greek Eris and the Greek Harmonia. Eris’ satellite Dysnomia is named after Eris’ daughter and means lawlessness.

Pluto-Charon, Eris, Makemake, and Haumea are the brightest objects in the Kuiper Belt and probaby only for this reason appointed to be dwarf-planets, while there are hundreds of candidates fulfilling the current definition as well. The current definition is simply to extensive! Eris was also thought to be the heaviest and largest body within the Kuiper Belt until the New Horizons space probe remeasured Pluto-Charon. Since then is Pluto-Charon again found to be bigger (still only in size, not in mass) than Eris, but this is very unfair because Eris was never remeasured by a space probe in her proximity! It is more likely that a comparison of the measurements of space probes bring the same results as only comparing the measurements of telescopes than that the mix of methods could ever bring anything better than comparing apples with oranges. It is only fair to say that Eris is the largest body in the Kuiper Belt or that Pluto-Charon is the best known body in the Kuiper Belt. But everything further than that has left the grounds of science and turned into a religious belief.

The only other relevant info about Eris could be that she had such a terrible nickname that it was almost impossible to concede any credibility to any announcements that the idea that there are ten planets and not one more and not one less in the solar system could be wrong. Although the ten planet solar system had become a belief too and thus left the grounds of science, this religious belief was only fought with a very ridiculous fantasy religion instead of trustworthy science. Don’t ever forget that science means not to trust in any announcements, which come without evidence!
