Donar

Donar is asteroid #2176 and also known as 2529 P-L because he was discovered in the Palomar-Leiden Survey. Donar is a member of the asteroid-family Koronis/ Lacrimosa. Donar is named after the Germanic god of thunder.

Donar is better known by his Scandinavian name Thor, but a famous superhero of the Marvel universe also goes by this name. So the name Donar puts clear that really the god from Norse mythology is meant. Marvel had adopted the Norse god for creating the superhero, but the newer Marvel movies have turned him into an extraterrestrial. Already the Marvel version of the Norse god wasn’t correct. Thor/ Donar is actually half high-god and half titan because he is the son of Odin and a titaness. Hence Donar is very tall and also very strong. He has red hair like his twin brother Loki. Donar defends mankind against all evils. The Romans had hence compared Donar with Hercules and found that they are the same god. Except that Hercules was actually a mortal hero with black hair as usual in ancient Greece, while Donar is one of the main gods of Norse mythology and a part of the Norse trinity.

Donar as the god of thunder should be similar in meaning as Zeus, who is the Greek god, who is lightning. Donar shares traits even with Christ because modern followers of the ancient gods wear the symbol of Donar’s hammer in the same manner as christians wear a crucifix. The habit of the former is probably only copied from the latter. Donar protects humans and Donar represents relations in the same manner as Donar is related with the other characters from Norse mythology. So Donar is complex and aspects are needed for making more statements.
