Prime

Prime is asteroid #7919 and also known as 1981 EZ27. Prime was discovered by the American astronomer Schelte John “Bobby” Bus at the Siding Spring Observatory. Prime is a common Main Belt Asteroid.

Prime is simply named after its own asteroid number. 7919 is the one-thousandth prime number. So Prime belongs to the category of playful names. Prime is named in a similar way as Mersenne, only simpler and at the same time more abstract.

Prime has some relevance for cryptography because Prime is named after the prime number. But this sounds like the astrological force would be useless for concrete questions or mysteries, which need to be solved by astrology. This can’t be because this would ignore a divine law. Hence it is of interest here that Prime is named in English only. Other languages have their own words for prime numbers, but only in English does it have many additional meanings. Romance languages and Polish share the meaning “first” in their words for prime; Japanese, Chinese, and Russian call it a “plain” number; while the German word Primzahl with its adjective prim is exclusively found in mathematics and has no other meaning than indivisible. Additional meanings like main, great, basic, best (years) or the use as a verb are found in English only. Prime comes with these additional meanings also as an astrological force.
