Walküre is asteroid #877 and also known as 1915 S7. Walküre was discovered by the Georgian-Russian astronomer Grigory Nikolayevich Neujmin (Григорий Николаевич Неуймин) at the Simeiz Observatory on the Crimean peninsula. Walküre is of the type F or C. Walküre’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.49 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.16, a period of revolution of 1 433 days, and an inclination of 4.26 degrees. Although Walküre is located near the orbital region of the Nysa-Polana complex, Walküre is a non-family asteroid of the background population of the Asteroid Main Belt.
Walküre is named after the Valkyrie (in German: Walküre), a female spirit from Norse mythology. The shield-bearing Valkyries decide the fate of warriors in battle, and conduct some of them to Valhalla, the afterlife hall where the fallen heroes are received. The name of the asteroid Walküre is the German variant of the name because Walküre is actually named after the title and the main character of Wagner’s opera Die Walküre (The Valkyrie). The love goddess Freyja is the head of the Valkyries and so the Valkyries bring of course half of the slain warriors to Sessrúmnir, Freyja’s hall of fallen heroes. Valkyries are described as maidens, who ride on flying horses and are able to shapeshift into swans.
Valkyries are in Wagner’s opera nine daughters of Wotan. The title of the opera refers to the Walküre, who is also known by the name Brünnhilde in Wagner’s opera. Wotan brought himself into a silly situation, where he had to support two men, who were enemies and fought a duel. One of them is named Siegmund and would in Wotan’s and also in Brünnhilde’s opinion be the rightful victor in the duel, but Wotan’s wife (named Fricke in Wagner’s opera) insists that his enemy Hunding must win because Hunding’s wife gets a child by Siegmund, so that Fricke and Wotan as the keepers and guardians of the cosmic order mustn’t let Siegmund get away and even turn versus Hunding. So Wotan orders Brünnhilde to make Hunding win the duel. Brünnhilde doesn’t follow this order and Wotan has to bring justice by himself. After that he punishes Brünnhilde by turning her into a mortal human woman.
Also the term Walküre means a certain Walküre with name Brünnhilde in Wagner’s opera, the astrological force Walküre isn’t named Brünnhilde, but only Walküre and hence indicates only what is connected with the term Walküre. The name is still from the opera, so what is connected with the term Walküre is to be a daughter of Wotan and to be immortal. As the daugher of Wotan, Walküre fits to the astrological forces with names from Norse mythology. This is relevant in synastries. Due to the fact that immortality is a recurring theme among astrological forces, Walküre can’t be only about immortality. The Walküre had illusions about promises, loyalty, and her own immortality. She gets punished by her father, while her commander Freyja isn’t involved at all. So Walküre indicates to live in illusions.
Walküre can of course also show traits of Valkyries in general. So I read in a German forum that an astrologer discovered Walküre in prominent positions in some death charts. There Walküre represents the deceased relatives, who are ready to receive the soul, that is about to leave the material plane. But more examples would be necessary to become sure about such ideas. Especially comparing with other entities, such like Hermes, guiding the souls of deceased people would be required! Astrologers as well as I can only present working hypotheses before proper research is conducted….
