Bratfest is asteroid #7887 and also known as 1993 SU2. Bratfest was discovered by the American astronomer Carl William Hergenrother at the Catalina Station of the Steward Observatory, near Tucson, Arizona, USA. Bratfest’s orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.58 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.10, a period of revolution of 1 512 days, and an inclination of 13.7 degrees. Bratfest is a member of the Hirayama-family Maria/ Roma.

Bratfest is named after an Oktoberfest-style gathering hosted by the graduate students of the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory at the University of Arizona. The astronomer, after whom the Kuiper Belt is named, founded the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory. It is one of only few places, where students can specialize in studying celestial bodies. The Lunar and Planetary Laboratory hosts an annual art exhibition since 2013. But the asteroid Bratfest seems to have got its name in 2003, when the Bratfest event had its twenty-fifth anniversary. The annual event is hosted still, got an own website, and the students are aware of Bratfest history and also of the asteroid Bratfest. The event meanwhile is hosted at other locations too. The name Bratfest is derived from the words bratwurst and festival.

Bratfest obviously represents festival events. Maybe other informal annual events too. If Takoyaki hints to Japanese street food, then Bratfest should hint to western fast food. Maybe Bratfest can also indicate reflecting on yourself or rather on your astrological charts because the students of the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory don’t forget the asteroid.
