Apollo is asteroid #1862 and a Near Earth Asteroid of the Apollo-group. Although Apollo was the first asteroid of the Apollo-group and hence this whole group is named after Apollo, there are asteroids in this group with lower asteroid numbers because Apollo was lost for a long time. Apollo was discovered in 1932, hence also called 1932 HA, then lost, finally found again in 1973. Apollo crosses the orbits of Mars, Earth, and Venus. A radar observation in 2005 revealed that Apollo is orbited by a natural satellite. Apollo was named after a god of Greek mythology, who is the son of Leto (after whom asteroid #68, a large Main Belt Asteroid of the spectral type S, is named) and Zeus (after whom asteroid #5731, another asteroid of the Apollo-group, is named).
Apollo serves in the Greek mythology, very much like Chiron, to tie the tales of different gods, half-gods, and heroes with each other. Apollo was the (Olympic) god of light, as such successor of the titan goddess Phoibe, of archery, arts, music, and many other fields. The first story about him tells how he protected his mother, who was hated by Hera because Hera hated all of Zeus’ lovers. Apollo had with Ixion’s sister Koronis a son with name Asclepios, but Koronis wanted to marry king Ischys, so Apollo’s sister Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, shot Koronis with an arrow. Asclepios was hence raised in Chiron’s school at Mount Pelion. Asclepios specialized in the art of healing and outdid Chiron in that. Asclepios was able to heal every disease and later he could even cure people, who were already deceased. He was not only able to, but also felt the need to prove that repeatedly. Hence Hades, who lost souls of the deceased this way because the soul is the difference between a living and a dead body, went to his brother Zeus to complain. Zeus slayed Asclepios. This made Apollo take revenge by killing the cyclops, who had raised Zeus. Of course Zeus had to punish Apollo for this and Zeus sentenced Apollo to serve as a slave for the mortal king Admetos of Pherai in Thessalia. In another incident had Apollo helped in a plot to tie up Zeus and was afterwards sentenced to serve Laomedon the first king of Troy. Apollo was, after some other gods, the patron of the oracle of Delphi. Apollo was also adored as the god of prophecy because he gave prophetic skills to some seers. Among them was Kassandra, who denied him sexual benefits and reproved him that she had never agreed to such a deal. Apollo was disgruntled and cursed Kassandra, so that her always accurate prophecies would never be believed by anybody.
Martha Lang-Wescott is an astrologer and was a pioneer in including asteroids. But her “knowledge” about asteroids is mainly speculation, so she counts Askalaphus as a healer together with Asclepios and his Roman version Aesculapius. For what reason could Askalaphus, Hades’ messenger, be counted as a healer? On the other hand could she very well be right with Apollo. According to her indicates Apollo that a lesson, that isn’t learned well, has to be repeated. Then you would repeat and repeat and repeat what Apollo touches in your natal chart. Apollo is in my own natal chart conjunct asteroid (#1685) Toro and the vertex, hence rather prominent. I would have to repeat what Toro stands for. Toro or 1948 OA is an Near Earth Asteroid of the Apollo-group and the S-type. Toro is in a 8:5 orbital resonance with Earth and in a 13:5 orbital resonance with Venus. Toro was named after the maiden name of the wife of the astronomer, who figured this orbital resonance out because he had specialized in celestial mechanics and space navigation. Nevertheless equal researchers in asteroid astrology associate Toro only with violence, most likely because the name, as it means bull in Spanish, reminds them of bullfights in Spain. But I have still to agree because I had repeatedly been the victim of violence indeed! The mythological Apollo repeats his experience as a servant to mortal kings. Certainly something, that such a mighty god would never have expected to happen to him. The Apollo program, which was certainly named this way because Apollo’s sister was originally the young version of the Moon as a goddess, consisted of several flights in order to learn more and more about how the goal of landing on the Moon could be achieved. These are all good hints that Apollo really indicates something, that needs to be and will be repeated several times.
