Ragazza is asteroid #1839 and also known as 1971 UF. Ragazza was discovered by the Swiss astronomer Paul Wild at the Zimmerwald Observatory. Ragazza is a slow rotator and a member of the asteroid-family Gefion.
Ragazza is named after the municipality Bad Ragaz in Switzerland and, because Switzerland is a multilingual country, also after the Italian word ragazza, which means girl. The German word Bad means bath. Bad Ragaz was first only Ragaz and a farming village, where a nearby monastery owned all land. Then a thermal spring was discovered and Ragaz became Bad Ragaz and a center for health spa tourism. Many festivals, some held only every three years, were established in Bad Ragaz in order to increase the tourism.
The founding legend of the monastery of Bad Ragaz tells that a dove was showing the place, where the monastery should be built. This is already the whole and in no way thrilling legend. Showing the dove on the coat of arms indicates that there isn’t any more thrilling legend connected with the town.
Although Ragazza became the name of the asteroid most likely only because of the similarity of the pronunciation with Ragaz, the asteroid is definitely named Ragazza and wanted this name. So the asteroid is primarily named after the Italian word for girl. This doesn’t refer to any specific girl. Hence the asteroid hints to the Italian language as well as to girls in general. The asteroid Child already represents children in general, so Ragazza should together with Child reveal whether female children are meant. Meticulously adding such minute details to the interpretation of an astrological chart is exactly the task, which asteroids are there to fulfill.
