Muchachos was discovered by the Finnish astronomer Liisi Oterma at the Iso-Heikkilä Observatory in Turku, Finland. Muchachos’ orbit is characterized by a semi-major axis of 2.45 Astronomical Units, an eccentricity of 0.17, a period of revolution of 1 406 days, and an inclination of 0.6 degrees.
Muchachos is named after Roque de los Muchachos, La Palma, Canary Islands, Spain. Roque de los Muchachos is a rocky mound at the highest point of the island La Palma. It is 2 423 m above sea level and some of the world’s largest telescopes from European observatories are situated there. Roque de los Muchachos is a name, that can be translated.
